Papa's got a brand new bag!

. Fran Dunaway

A tomboy can never have too many bags, and that is certainly true of Naomi and me. So two years ago when we found the bag maker MariClaRo we were delighted. We had seen the bags made of seatbelts but these were something much more. Because MariClaRo bags are made of reclaimed car seats (think rich, thick leather with seatbelt straps). They are made incredibly well, with lots of pockets, zippers and even some padding to protect your laptop. They are made in a small town in Ontario. The owner Sven works with local townspeople who hand sew them. It usually takes them about 3 weeks to fulfill an order.

Our second and newest bag maker is a local Seattle company, Alchemy Goods. They take old bicycle tubes and repurpose them into amazing bags, wallets, belts and more. I’ve long admired them but hadn’t ever really touched them or tried them out. We’ve been traveling a lot and I had grown tired of my toiletry bag, too many zippers, too hard to find things. I remembered an old leather dopp bag my dad had when I was a kid and tried to find something like it online. Then one day I was in a shop and found a bag just like the one he used to have, only made from recycled bike tubes! Yes, it was an Alchemy toiletries bag. I bought it and called the owner the next day. We agreed that their brand is a perfect fit for the TomboyX customer. We hand selected the bags and wallets that we now carry. And we’re working with them on some awesome new stuff that will be coming in the new year.

I know you’ll love the quality of each of these bags from both companies. And you’re doing something wonderful for the environment. And every day that you carry one of them, at least one person will stop you and ask you where you got it.

Check out the entire selection and as always, let us know what you think.
